Trayvon wasn’t the first & Darius won’t be the last
13 years old, outside doing his chores & now he’s dead because an old man with a gun decided he had to be responsible for the break ins. And of course people are already trying to give the killer excuses (some fucker on Huff Po went so far as to say that if the kid had been involved in the break ins this his future value to the community was minimal), and no one’s talking about the fact that this child was killed because we live in a society where the color of his skin makes him a suspect & worthy of a death sentence handed down by whatever white man wants to administer it. 13 years old & he’ll never get to grow up. I’m choking on rage & grief & fear & it wasn’t even my son. But it could be & a whole lot of people will sit there and give money to help a child’s killer get away with it. How many dead black kids does it take before America confronts itself?
