Three things to know today:

Women still make only 77 cents for every dollar men make. The Paycheck Fairness Act is up for a vote this afternoon. And Republicans in Congress have promised to block it.

I support the Paycheck Fairness Act, but the 77 cents on the man’s dollar is accurate only when comparing WHITE women to WHITE men. African American women make 69 cents on the white man’s dollar, and Latinas make just 59 cents to the white man’s dollar. 

The PFA would certainly help, but there needs to be a long hard look at the way race influences the pay gap, and what can be done to fix that, too.
